On Monday October 19th, the Swedish Ambassador to Tanzania, Honorable Staffan Herrström and his family, paid a visit to Sebastian Kolowa University College. He arrived at Campus A around 10:00 am. Upon his arrival, he was warmly welcomed by SEKUCo’s member of staff lead by the acting Provost, Dr. Fanuel Shechambo, Ag. Deputy Provost for Administration, Ambassador Fanuel Kuzilwa and North Eastern Diocese’s Assistant to Bishop, Dean Mwamboza.

After a short introduction to some of SEKUCo member of staff, the acting Provost, read a short report to Hon. Ambassador concerning the history of the University, rehabilitation of physical facilities at both campuses, number of students currently enrolled, staffing, programmes currently conducted by the university, status of Library and IT.

He also gave an overview about cooperation with the Tanzania Commission for Universities, the Committee of Vice Chancellors and Principals, the Higher Students Loan board, Tumaini university colleges and Universities within Tanzania and around the world.

Dr. Shechambo also mentioned a number of challenges which are related to the infancy of the university college, challenges which we face with courage and determination through building networks with well wishers and partners who share SEKUCo’s Vision and Mission.

After a tea short break, Hon Ambassador had an opportunity to pay visit to Campus B, where he visited the library. He got a lot of information from the Head of Library Department, Mama Mwandomola. He also paid a visit to the ICT department , especially the new computer classrooms, where he got the information on how computers helps students and lecturers to get more materials from the internet. He was informed of the difficulties the University is facing especially on low internet connectivity speed, due to an old infrastructure which needs high improvements.

The ambassador also visited Special Needs Education Center, Cafeteria and Lecturers’ offices. The tour ended around 12:45 pm, where he went to NED Head Office for further tour to NED’s institutions.
