INVITATION TO APPLY FOR ADMISSION INTO DEGREE OF BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN MENTAL HEALTH AND REHABILITATION PROGRAMME FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2012/2013

The Sebastian Kolowa University College (SEKUCo) of Tumaini University Makumira (TUMA) is located in Lushoto District, Tanga Region. It was established in October 2007 by the North-Eastern Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (NED-ELCT).

Applications are invited from qualified candidates wishing to pursue studies leading to the Bachelor of Science in Mental Health and Rehabilitation (BSc MHR) degree offered under the Faculty of Science for the academic year 2012/2013.

The Four-Year BSc MHR programme mainly targets at training Clinical Officers and Assistant Medical Officers to become Assistant Medical Officers Psychiatry and Clinical Officers Psychiatry (holding BSc MHR). The trained Clinical Officers and Assistant Medical Officers will gain a sound and in-depth professional knowledge in Psychiatry.

The training will be carried out in four blocks, each consisting of two modules. One block corresponds to one academic year. The two modules in each block have a duration of twelve (12) weeks for class work and five (5) weeks for practical training. All together, the training will take forty eight (48) weeks of theory and twenty (20) weeks of practice.

Entry Requirements: To be eligible for consideration for admission into the programme, the candidate must:

(a) Be a holder of Diploma in Assistant Medical Officer or Clinical Officer training from a recognised/accredited institution with an overall average of “B” or above.

(b) Be a registered Assistant Medical Officer or Clinical Officer with at least 2 years working experience.

If employed, the applicant must get permission from his/her employer.

The completed form shall be accompanied by pay-in-slip of non-refundable Application Fee of Tshs 20, 000/= for Tanzanians or USD 20 for Non-Tanzanians. All payments shall be deposited to the Sebastian Kolowa University College bank accounts, which are:

Applicants must:

(i) Give full particulars of citizenship (including a copy of the birth certificate) and enclose photocopies of all credentials (“O” Level, Diploma and/or Certificate). Applicants with diploma qualifications obtained outside the country must submit a translation by the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) indicating equivalent grades to those used in Tanzania. This is in addition to submission of the original grades.

(ii) Pay a non-refundable application fee of TZS 20,000/= for Tanzanians and USD 20 for non-Tanzanians. Applications without the required application fee will not be processed.

(iii) Deposit all fees into the SEKUCo bank account as indicated above.

(iv) Understand that they will be selected to join the University College based on their qualifications only.

Deadline for receiving application forms is at 4 p.m. on Monday 31st October 2012.

It is an offence to submit false information when applying for admission. Applicants who will be discovered to have submitted a forged certificate or any other document will not be considered and appropriate legal action will be taken against them.
