SEKUCo has held it’s first-ever graduation ceremony for successful participants in the Bachelor of Special Needs Education. The course, reaffirming the NED-ELCT commitment to effective training teachers and other professionals involved in the special educational needs and impairments maintaining the highest level of professionalism. Presiding Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) Dr. Alex Malasua, and Professor John Shao, Vice Chancellor of Tumaini University, presented the bachelor certificates to the 132 graduates, most of whom are teachers.

On 3rd December 2009, people around the world celebrated the potentials, gifts and talents endowed in people with disabilities. Sebastian Kolowa University College of Tumaini University took part in this important event by hosting the regional celebrations whose initiative taker was the Youth with Disabilities Community Programme (YDCP) based in the city of Tanga.

On Monday October 19th, the Swedish Ambassador to Tanzania, Honorable Staffan Herrström and his family, paid a visit to Sebastian Kolowa University College. He arrived at Campus A around 10:00 am. Upon his arrival, he was warmly welcomed by SEKUCo’s member of staff lead by the acting Provost, Dr. Fanuel Shechambo, Ag. Deputy Provost for Administration, Ambassador Fanuel Kuzilwa and North Eastern Diocese’s Assistant to Bishop, Dean Mwamboza. On 24th July 2009, a workshop on CO-TEACHING was conducted at the Sebastian Kolowa University College. The workshop was led by Prof. Marilyn Kaff and Ms. Susan Dillinger, both from the International Association of Special Education as well as Brenna, Prof. Marilyn’s daughter. Forty one teachers from public and private schools from Lushoto District and the city of Tanga participated. There were secondary school teachers from Ubiri and Lwandai Secondary Schools and primary schools participants from Lushoto. Also, teachers from Irente School for the Blind, Irente Rainbow School participated and the Youth with Disabilities Community Programme (YDCP) in Tanga.
